New colours to the old spectrum

You go home after a hectic schedule at work, with all the work that has to be done and dusted, you open your laptop and watch a movie to refresh yourself from all the chaos in the world. The one movie you watch can either brighten your mood high or lower your self esteem for watching that movie and ruin the rest of your day. That one movie is like a strong morning filter coffee; either it tastes so good that you wouldn’t want to taste anything after drinking it for a while or it so ruins your tongue that you immediately would want to taste something to get rid of that bad taste.

In order for a coffee to taste good, there must be a perfect blend of everything; right from the milk to adding perfect amount of decoction and boiling it up. In this process, even if we miss adding one thing, it ruins the total essence of the coffee. Similarly, in order for a movie to come out good, there must be a perfect blend of everything; right from penning down the screenplay(script) to the last day of the post productions.

Recent trends in the Kannada Film Industry (KFI) has changed the whole paradigm of storytelling and bringing it onto the celluloid which has created a ruckus in the hearts of the general audience and in the hearts of movie buffs. Prior to this golden era of excellent filmmakers (GOLDEN ERA- starting from 2009 to present, I personally believe so), KFI was in a maze full of unhealthy ideas and off notch ideologies which lead to the upbringing of certain unethical films which are just like a bad morning coffee. Thanks to Pawan kumar, Dr. Upendra, Rakshith Shetty and many more to thank for making the movies which turned some fair amount of audiences’ heads towards our Kannada film industry and gain respect to themselves and to the industry as well.

My grandfather always says, in the generation of his, the movies which were released were full of society values and touch the hearts of the audience. And, those movies are still loved and respected even today. That’s the power of a good movie. Even today, we cherish the stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata when we read it or listen to it, because it has so much of valuable content in it. He always used to scold the movie makers of the present generation until recently.

But, Now I can proudly say to my future generation that “hey! Listen. There was a time our Industry gave so many classical movies which are ought to be kept in the libraries and watch it as many times and still there’s so much to learn from that”. (Here, I don’t intend to say that the future generation will not bring out good movies, instead, we have lot of good movies). After all, the spectrum has remained constant, just the colours are added which has increased the beauty of the spectrum.

The wanderer

a. There must be a place that feels exactly like home, but not home. There must be a phrase that  Sums up all the feel-good emotions that I so want to banter about. There must also be the warmth that I always needed. b. Every step I put requires the strength  Of wanting. I wander. I get lost. I wander. I find. c. Every play has 3 parts to it. The beginning. Feels terrible. The interval. Realization and the urge to get closer. The end. Finding the familiarity. The more I get lost, the more I find a part within me that I barely knew existed.

A personal note on That Antha Eli- A Kannada Short Film

When you are with your friends just about talking, while the conversation skipping from one dissociated topic to the next, have you ever observed that it's the most boring, daily life incident narrated by that one friend that gets the group hooked and NOT the most flamboyant piece of information that another friend had to say? What do you think? Good oratory skills you may say, but that's just a tiny part of the whole incident. Well, then, you may say it's the incident itself that made the narration so interesting, you may counter, but then it's a boring incident, no? Perhaps It's the culmination of both the ideas- the tool used for narration (oratory skills/screenplay) and making the banal idea into the most interesting part of the story (tell what is necessary to your friends/editing) The idea of this short film sounds too flat when read on paper. So to make it sound vibrant, we thought, after several discussions on the location that we were going to the making fi
